KOKUSELECT / BRAND STORY
Near Kyoto's historic Daitokuji temple, Kouroan Tea Shop celebrates Ujitawara tea growing, careful craftsmanship and the culture of enjoying Japanese tea.
Kouroan's story begins in the tea fields of Ujitawara, Kyoto. Its work spans tea cultivation, careful finishing and the welcoming experience of tea served in its tea rooms. From traditionally stone-milled matcha to distinctive Japanese teas, Kouroan seeks to bring out each tea's individual aroma and character, connecting the care of its growers with Kyoto's rich tea culture.
皐盧庵茶舗 has its shop in Kyoto's Daitokuji area, closely associated with the tea ceremony, and grows tea on its own farm in Ujitawara. Its name, 皐盧, comes from an old term praising tea that also appears in Kissa Yojoki. The name expresses its wish to continue making good tea.
The tea house handles cultivation, processing, retail and hospitality in its tea rooms itself. Valuing hand-picked tencha, stone milling and careful finishing with traditional tools, it brings the flavours nurtured in the fields into a bowl of tea.
